Final Major Project Tuesday 21st February

I went to the library today and researched about artists. I was really inspired by Chinese contemporary art today, as I’ve been overlooking them for years. It’s really strange because there are so many fantastic Chinese artists but I know few of them. I think it’s because that I have been living in this culture since born, so I never thought about looking into it. I find artists like Stanley Wong who brought Chinese social context into untraditional practice and brought a second meaning to those seen as common symbols like lanterns. Ancient China is all about details and handcrafting, but I also like modern China’s industrial aesthetics. Within the coldness hidden under the fire of propaganda, every visual element in modern Chinese society focus on one thing and one thing only, which is function. Hence the bizarre color palette on propaganda posters, the overwhelming billboards and so much more. I enjoy them in a dystopian way.
